Greene County district court, week ending May 16

In Greene County district court Kyle Dean Rysavy, 26, of Jefferson was sentenced to a term not to exceed two years in prison with credit for time served after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of harassment- second degree. The prison term was suspended. If Rysavy eventually serves the term it will be consecutive to a term in a Carroll County case. He was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Chad Christopher Louk, 49, of Jefferson was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. All but two days of the jail term was suspended, with the jail term concurrent to a sentenced for violation of a no contact order. He was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. Louk was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge. He must pay victim restitution to be determined and an amount not to exceed $200 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Luis Daniel Medina Cruz, 26, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must pay a $105 civil penalty, restitution not to exceed $400 for his court appointed attorney’s fees, and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Christopher Harry Reber, 37, of Des Moines was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of fraudulent practice- third degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $173.30 court costs. A charge of gambling- avoid setoff was dismissed. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty to charges in district court as follows: Maya Renee Benavides, 21, of Fort Dodge, theft- second degree; James Edward Poole II, 45, of Coon Rapids, fraudulent practice-second degree and gambling- avoid set-off; Jason Wayne Morris, 42, of Rippey, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; Mihles J. Exline, 33, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated; Sharlene Kay Gingery, 60, of Carroll, driving while license barred; and Zachary Alan Armstrong, 38, of Jefferson, assault while display dangerous weapon (two counts), and harassment- first degree (four counts). Trial date was set for June 17 for Morris and Armstrong, and for July 22 for Benavides, Poole, Exline and Gingery.

Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending May 16 as follows: Travis Ryan Armstrong, 36, of Scranton, operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense; Robert Alan Fry, 61, of Jefferson, driving while license revoked; and Andrea P. Martin, 50, of Kaneohe, HI, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness.

Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Trey A. Wilson, 28, of Aurora, NE is charged with criminal mischief- second degree. The warrant was issued April 19, 2016, and returned April 30, 2025.
